The Most Common Orthopedic Disorders

One way of preventing joint disorders is to understand the various conditions that affect musculoskeletal system. This way, you will have the chance to prepare yourself and take the necessary precaution measures to avoid them.

Arthritis

The Most Common Orthopedic Disorders

One of the most common orthopedic conditions is arthritis. This is a type of joint disorder that includes inflammation of joints. The most usual form of arthritis is called osteoarthritis which is commonly brought up by trauma, infection or aging. Other types are septic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

The common complaint by those who have arthritis is the excruciating pain. This pain is due to the inflammation which may be caused by a disease, the wear and tear of the cartilage, strains from the surrounding muscles, and fatigue.

Bursitis

This is the inflammation of the bursae. They are the small sacs of the synovial fluid (located at the cavities of the synovial joints). They lie at the portions where the usual functionaries like tendons and muscles come across with the bone. They produce the fluidity of the joints, making it painless, frictionless and smoothly gliding. When bursitis happens, the movements become difficult and painful. Furthermore, the motions of the tendons and muscles on the inflamed bursa worsen its inflammation. Thus, the movement of the knee becomes stiffer and more painful.

Bone Fracture

This is the condition in which there is a breakage or discontinuity in the bone connections. This may be caused by trivial injury, high force stress or impact, or certain medical conditions such as bone cancer, osteoporosis and osteogenesis imperfect (the third case is professionally called pathological fracture).

Osteoporosis

This is a disease of the bone where the normal bone density decreases. This may be caused by aging or the lack of calcium-intake. It can be classified by the curving of the back or the loss of height.

Tear of Meniscus

This injury is the breaking of the menisci, the fibrocartilage strips in the knee. Doctors refer to it as the torn cartilage. It can be torn surprisingly due to mild activities such as squatting or walking. But the menisci are more gullible to traumatic force such as excessive physical exertions in sports or works.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury

This injury is commonly seen in athletes, whose sports involve the excessive use of the knee, resulting to its rupture. Such sports are basketball, soccer and football. The main purpose of the anterior cruciate ligament is to diminish the motion of the femur on the tibia. If there are superfluous motions on the tibia, it can create injuries to the surrounding ligaments and muscles.

What to do

These are the most common orthopedic conditions which you must prepare for. You can prevent these by taking care of your bones. You can do that by increasing your calcium take in or do the necessary exercises to strengthen your musculoskeletal system. There are also several supplements that can prevent or stop joint disorders from happening.
