The pursuit of a healthy relationship is always an on-going battle. As time passes and you begin to become more comfortable with the person you have spend countless hours with, you can start to question just how serious things are and whether you have the proper tools to move forward in your relationship. Having open communication, trusting one another and having a mutual respect for each other's roles is critical for any relationship to be healthy. Communication is a big part of all relationships. If partners are unable to speak openly about their problems, how will they truly know if anything is wrong? It is imperative to speak up and let your feelings be know if something is bothering you and you wish to discuss it. Never hold back what you truly feel just to spare yourself from a confrontation. Fighting occurs within relationships and it can be healthy when done sparingly. When all emotions are put on the table and each side has his and her voices heard, only then can finding a solution to problems begin. Beyond communication, there needs to be an inherent trust among partner. Constant suspicion or giving reason to constantly be suspicious is a great way to break that trust. If the female partner is always talking to other guys, or the male partner always seems jealous when his girlfriend speaks to other guys, there are trust issues there and those need be resolved. Otherwise, there will be constant unrest within the relationship. Above all else, partners must value each other equally within a relationship. Each person has something unique to offer and nobody is more valuable to the partnership than the other. If one believes he or she brings more to the table than his or her partner, that perceived inequality is unhealthy. If for whatever reason a relationship lacks proper communication, trust and respect, that does not mean it needs to be ended. There are proper channels for resolving these issues that problems can be worked through and solutions can be utilized to produce a healthy relationship. Counseling of some sort is perhaps the best avenue. Utilizing the services of an outside party to help a couple deal with their issues can extremely useful. Looking at the relationship through unbiased eyes can bring a new perspective onto the existing problems and make each party look clearer for a way to build a more healthy relationship. If this does not work, try taking some time apart from each other and seeing other people. This could ultimately lead to the end of the relationship. But perhaps it could make each partner realize just how valuable the relationship they had was and bring a whole new perspective to being with each. Working toward a healthy relationship is not easy and there will always be bumps in the road that need working through from both partners. But an open line of communication, trust and respect are great starting points to ensure a solid foundation. Don't be afraid to seek outside help or break off the relationship for a while if necessary. In the end, it could just make your bond stronger and cultivate an even healthier relationship than you had before. |
