Personal Trainers Can Work for Anyone |
The number of obese and out of shape people in North America is growing every day. People want to exercise and improve their fitness levels, but the biggest problem preventing this seems to be the lack of motivation. Let’s face it, we can be pretty lazy sometimes, and having someone there beside us to push us to our limits would really help to get us closer to our fitness goals. Some people think that asking a friend or family member to help keep them on track is a better idea, (probably because it’s free!) but this form of motivation never lasts very long, and can also cause some awkwardness and even dissension between loved ones. It is always best to hire a personal trainer who can be objective and impartial. Also, they have been trained and have studied fitness, health and nutrition and they will know what is safe for you. You don’t want to be injured doing an exercise that was simply not meant for your body type!
There are many places to find a good personal trainer. If you already have a gym membership, or you want one, that would be the first place to look. Gyms usually hire a staff of personal trainers, and they offer deals for gym members. The gym gives you a perfect location to workout and train, because all of the necessary equipment and space is already there. If you don’t like gyms, and would rather that your exercise be a little more private and personal, there are many personal trainers who will come to your home or even train you in their own homes. You can look in the yellow pages or on the internet to find trainers in your area. There are many different price ranges for personal training, and some trainers offer group rates (semi-private and group training). This means that they will pair you up with someone or a group that has similar needs as you. This is cheaper, but most people prefer the privacy of one-on-one training.
Another thing to consider when looking for a personal trainer is gender. A lot of people prefer to workout with a trainer who is the same gender as them (especially women). If this is important to you, make sure you select someone who best fits your needs. Even if you choose the gym route, and they assign someone to you, you can ask for someone of the same gender as you. This is normal, as a lot of people feel uncomfortable and self conscious while working out in front of the opposite sex.
When you have a few personal trainers to choose from, look them up and ask around about them if you can. You can talk to them about their success stories, and get referrals from past or present customers as well. Its always good to know that they have helped other people get to their fitness goals before you give them your hard earned money!
When you find someone you click with and start training with them, don’t give up when things get tough – remember, it’s their job to push you. Your personal trainer wouldn’t be doing their job if they let you quit on yourself. You want someone who will drive you, and push you forward; even make you mad if they have to. |
